That's according to "Britain's Got More Talent" host Stephen Mulhern, who claims Dec told him he was planning to get "back on the game straight away" after the couple welcomed daughter Isla last September.

Speaking about the crash, which saw him crash into two cars, Ant said, "It wasn't until I'd gone away and rested that it kicked in. It's the most destabilising thing that has ever happened to me".

Asked if he is on medication, Dec - married to the duo's former manager Ali Astall - said: 'No, just counselling. "I said, 'Look, forget everything - TV, the partnership - you've just got to go and get well.' I think I said I'd give everything up if he could just be happy again".

"It's a testament to us having been around so long and people having grown up with us that they've allowed us - well, allowed me - to come back", he mused.

Dec, who became a father for the first time when daughter Isla was born a year ago, also labelled as "indefensible" Ant's actions.

The 43-year-old dad-of-one said: "It felt like a nightmare, that there'd been a mistake". How could he do that? "I wanted to punch him and hug him at the same time - and I didn't know which one I wanted to do first".

With Ant in rehab, Dec was left to host the live shows of Britain's Got Talent alone. Get Me Out Of Here! by This Morning's Holly Willoughby.

Speaking in a new interview with The Guardian Weekend magazine, Dec confessed how upset he was when he heard about Ant's drink driving arrest.
