"We were just having a normal conversation like I knew him".

The 4-over-par mark leaves Loy tied for 40th-place in the 72-player field going into Thursday's elimination round, with the top-30 two-day scores moving on to Saturday's final round at Augusta National Golf Club.

"Seeing Augusta for the first time, it was unbelievable, and like just seeing how everything is set up, and how everything looks, it's just so flawless", she said.

"I've played two major events and they were very stressful". The overlap has already made for hard decisions for a handful of the women's top amateur players who were invited to both.

Flights delays and traffic warning as thick fog blankets Sydney
More than 20 domestic flights and at least three worldwide flights in and out of Sydney are still delayed. However, Jetstar did cancel four domestic flights out of Sydney because of the fog.

United States collegiate champion Kupcho was first on the first tee at 9am, conquering her nerves to drill her drive and launch what she called a "perfect" day. "We figured let's just play one and not get wigged out about it".

Meanwhile, Graeme McDowell is among the players looking to follow in the footsteps of Ian Poulter and secure a last-minute invite to the Masters at the Valero Texas Open. The teen phenom went 2-under on her first nine and 2-under on her back nine while only carding two bogeys! "I was ball striking well and was able to hit lag puts consistently", she said. Both Laisne and Papp are tied for 15th after the first round. The Californian, set to attend UCLA, finished third at last year's World Junior Girls Championship, played in Canada at Camelot Golf and Country Club in Cumberland, Ontario. So for me I played Houston in the past leading up to Augusta. "We are all incredibly proud of her achievement and wish her great golf this week". I had a lot of pretty decent putts, like 20 feet and in, so I could have made more, but you can't ask to make everything on these greens. "This is a hard course and you can't take it for granted".

Jennifer Kupcho and Zoe Campos carded four under 68s to sit atop the leaderboard after the opening day of the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur.

The iconic course will be tested by top young women on the same week the LPGA Tour plays its first major championship of the year, the ANA Inspiration in California, with Augusta National aiming to establish its own classic tournament. On Friday, however, all the participants will participate in a practice round at Augusta.
