Rapper Lil X is getting support for his song from country singer Billy Ray Cyrus

The reason? The song "did not embrace enough elements of today's country music to chart in its current version".

Billboard may have blocked Lil Nas X's viral hit "Old Town Road" from the Country charts, but a legend of the genre is co-signing the 19-year-old from Atlanta.

I didn't wake up this morning thinking I'd listen to a song featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, but here we are. Why? However, Billboard told the magazine that, upon further review, the artist's song did not merit inclusion on its country chart-causing a bit of controversy. Earlier this week Lil Nas X addressed the removal, which had sparked a debate over the visibility of people of color in the country music genre. "Country music fans don't need to be defined by critics". I've always said, don't think inside the box, don't think outside the box. Think like there is no box. "The song is country trap". "Means you're doing something great. Welcome to the club!" Back in December, Lil Nas X shared a video of himself listening to "Old Town Road" and wrote, "twitter please help me get billy ray cyrus on this".

Last week, Billboard drew heavy criticism after Rolling Stone noticed it had attempted to quietly remove the country rap smash off its Hot Country Songs chart. Many on social media have suggested that Billboard's exclusion of "Old Town Road" has more to do with the race of the artist than it has to do with the sound of the song, which Billboard denies in a statement.
