NY 2019: Genesis reveals Mint 2-door electric concept

In all seriousness, this electric concept shows a different side of the Genesis brand, which so far consists of larger sedans.

Stylists from South Korea, Germany, and the United States worked together to create the Mint.

The Genesis Mint is a fully-electric city vehicle with two doors and room for two (three in a pinch). The front and rear overhangs are incredibly short, and huge wheels give is a somewhat pugnacious appearance.

The Mint's cabin offers ample space for two passengers. The two-seater has a lavish interior and an extravagant yet tiny rear cargo space you can access through gullwing doors.

Inside, the Mint is simplistic, inspired by the Korean tradition of embracing empty space.

Welcome to the Genesis Mint.

Woman, 29, is shot dead in ‘terrorist incident’ in Londonderry

Genesis uses genuine leather for interior upholstery and puts a small touchscreen display in the middle of the steering wheel which shows useful status information.

The screen that makes today's cars seem alive and connected has been moved in the center of the steering wheel.

This vehicle is far enough out there that it's probably not realistic to expect Genesis to move to a production phase, but the company would well incorporate several of the design and technological elements present in it in future models.

Technical specifications are vague at best. Genesis isn't being specific about power or performance figures, but notes that the EV can travel around 200 miles per charge - or just a bit less than contemporary counterparts like the Chevrolet Bolt and Tesla Model 3 Standard Range. It's compatible with 350-kilowatt fast-charging technology. Its horsepower rating remains unannounced.

Genesis has good form when it comes to concepts. The young brand is now expanding its line-up of models, but it's focusing on SUVs and crossovers - which are in hot demand all over the world - and it hasn't indicated plans to enter the city vehicle segment.
