The media-savvy killer had been known to call newspapers during the two trials it took to secure a conviction, complaining of conditions on Rikers Island and demanding coverage of his plight.

A juror who asked not to be identified told ABC News outside the courtroom he was the only juror who went into deliberations not yet convinced of convicting Lewis.

"We received troubling and reliable information indicating that the police withheld critical... information about other potential suspects, which was never turned over to the defense", Luongo said in a statement to CBS News.

The juror, a man in his 30s who works in entertainment, added: "At first, I thought this was going to be about race, then it totally went the opposite direction". The victim's family, however, said there's no question that the verdict was just. "It's the only place I can go to get peace", he said. The jury deliberated for five hours Monday and convicted the 22-year-old despite defense attorneys' claim that key evidence that may have proved exculpatory was withheld during the retrial. His previous trial ended in a hung jury in November.

Ask for his reaction as he left court late Monday, Phil Vetrano told reporters, "Jubilation", adding that "justice has been served..." He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. "He drew them out, he made them with a plasma cutter", said Vetrano. "Moreover, we learned that the police approached our Mr. Lewis to obtain a DNA swab as part of a race-biased dragnet, which involved the swabbing of over 360 African-American men in Howard Beach and other neighboring sections of Brooklyn and Queens".

A longtime veteran attorney and legal analyst who's practiced for decades in the same court as the Chanel Lewis trial said that he respects the judge greatly.

The letter containing the new allegations was delivered to the office of Lewis' defense attorneys, the New York Times reported. Her family contacted the police after she did not return from her run in Spring Creek Park, and almost six months passed before authorities found any leads in the case, NBC reported.

The attack redoubled the wariness of women who run alone, and it baffled investigators for a time. Lewis also admitted to the crime in a taped confession.

"The NYPD has painstakingly investigated the murder of Karina Vetrano, and as the Queens District Attorney's prosecution demonstrates, the evidence clearly shows that Chanel Lewis is responsible for her death. She's very powerful", the grief-stricken dad said.

Meanwhile, one of the jurors has reportedly said that he felt pressured to convict Lewis for the crime, even expressing his doubts to reporters after the verdict had already been reached. "How tall is Chanel?' She looked pretty buff me to".

Vetrano, a caterer and world traveler, typically ran with her father but jogged alone on the day of her murder on August 2, 2016.

Ms Vetrano had been out jogging when she was murdered.

DNA samples found on her body led New York Police Department to Lewis after a months-long manhunt.

Phil Vetrano did not return PEOPLE's calls for comment Tuesday.

"It feels like a weight has been lifted".
