Ottawa residents asked to check vaccine records to prevent local measles spread

The Health Service Executive has confirmed an outbreak of measles in Dublin with 10 cases identified since February.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that, for just the first quarter alone, 2019 already has the second-highest number of recorded cases of measles since the disease was considered eradicated from the U.S.in 2000. Anyone who was there between 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. might have been exposed, the public health agency said.

Born in or after 1970 and never received a measles-containing vaccine.

What's next: The AMA is urging physicians to talk with their patients about vaccine safety and effectiveness and explain the individual and public health risks associated with skipping immunization. Ottawa Public Health also strongly encouraged people to ensure they are vaccinated.
