Sony finally allows PSN Online ID changes

Some games have known, critical issues when changing the PSN ID, and there's a list for that, too. For example, games like Everybody's Golf, LittleBigPlanet 3, MLB The Show 14, MLB The Show 15, MLB The Show 16, and Worms Battlegrounds all have Critical Issues with the feature. On PS4 you navigate to Settings Account Management Account Information Profile Online ID and then can change your name by following the prompts.

The rumours began circulating back in October a year ago but now the time is here for you to alter any ridiculous names - GamerBoi_69 is no longer.

The full supported games list can be found here.

Choose your Online ID and follow the prompts.

As noted previously by Sony, there are some caveats with changing your PSN ID: some online games may not function correctly with your new online ID, with no guarantees for any game released before April 1st, 2018.

The first change is free, and changes after that will cost $9.99 USD / CAD.

Anthony Davis Wears Perfect T-Shirt For Final Pelicans Game
That'll happen on Tuesday night in New Orleans when the Pelicans close out their year against the Golden State Warriors . It's up in the air if he will play - he's listed as probable - but Davis still made an apparent fashion statement.

Old IDs are not freed for other users to chose.

Are there any risks in changing PSN Online ID?

Until now. Sony is finally delivering on its delayed promise to let users change their PSN names.

Because not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and Vita are guaranteed to support ID changes, it's possible you'll occasionally encounter issues or errors with particular games. Your old ID will always be available to you, as other users can not claim it should you rename your profile. If you'd prefer to use your computer, just log into your PSN account and use the edit button next to your PSN ID. How do I know that I won't run into these? You can also do it online. PlayStation admits "we expect major issues to occur only in a small number of games".

Q: Do all games support online ID change?

If you experience any issues while playing a game that is not on the list of tested games, we recommend that you revert back to your previous online ID that did not have those issues.

Sony says that you also "may lose access to content (including paid-for content) that you may have acquired for your games including content like add-ons and virtual currency".
