Newcomer Emma Corrin to Play Princess Diana in The Crown

The Crown executive producer Peter Morgan has found his Princess Diana.

Netflix released an announcement through Twitter on Tuesday evening, saying that unknown actress Emma Corrin will take the role of the young future Princess of Wales.

"Beyond excited and honoured to be joining The Crown for its fourth season", Corrin tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Though the Princess of Wales is not set to appear on the series until Season 4 which will begin filming in August 2019, the series creators were eager to lock down the ideal actress.

Corrin is a relative newcomer; her credits include an episode of TV series Grantchester and an upcoming film called Misbehavior - about a group of women who hatch a plan to disrupt the 1970 Miss World beauty competition in London - in which she plays Miss South Africa.

It's going to be more about the character and their experiences. "But it still has to be about feel and fun". Right now we don't know much about Jedi: Fallen Order other than what we've outlined.

The Crown Season 3 will launch later this year.

The Crown's creator Peter Morgan described Corrin as a "brilliant talent" who "immediately captivated" casting directors. "As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation", he said in a statement.

Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies have been confirmed to be taking over the roles of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip from Claire Foy and Matt Smith. Camilla married Queen Elizabeth's son, Prince Charles, in 2005, after they had a well-known affair while he was still married to Princess Diana.

The princess died in Paris in a vehicle crash in 1997.
