Trump Might Release Illegal Aliens into Sanctuary Cities

Instead of detaining immigrants with no documentation, Trump announced on Friday that his administration is considering having them relocate and live in designated sanctuary cities around the country.

In addition to more than 170 cities and counties listed, five states - including California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon and Vermont - are also considered sanctuary states, the Immigration Studies Center reports.

Throughout his time in the White House, Trump has criticized sanctuary cities and those who run them, as these individuals and localities refuse to cooperate with federal immigration agencies on illegal immigrants.

The idea of pressing immigration authorities to embrace the plan was discussed in November, and then again in February, as the Trump administration struggled with a surge of migrants at the border, according to people who spoke on condition of anonymity to outline private conversations.

"Sanctuary city" is a broad term applied to jurisdictions that have policies in place created to limit cooperation with or involvement in federal immigration enforcement actions.

"We're apprehending thousands and thousands of people a day", he said, adding that current laws only allow those caught to be held in custody for 20 days.

Earlier Sunday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders replied "nothing could be further from the truth" when pressed by "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace on whether the post could incite violence against Omar, a Minnesota Democrat and one of two Muslim women in Congress.

The home crowd was silent, and then the anxiety grew 62 seconds later when Brock Nelson gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead. The Penguins were penalized eight times in the 3-1 loss, giving the Islanders six power play opportunities.

While having stricter immigration laws may be meant to intimidate those committing crimes from doing so, nationwide sanctuary cities have proven to have their benefits, as some have suggested it makes the area safer. Some of these cities have robust networks of non-profit legal groups that could help them strengthen their legal cases to stay.

Another Democratic presidential hopeful, Amy Klobuchar, said Trump was "literally using human beings as pawns in a political game". Police in New York, Baltimore and Seattle, Wash., rarely, if ever, disclose information about when suspected criminals in the US illegally will be released from custody. "We want legal immigration".

Jaramillo called it more "posturing" and "showmanship from the commander in chief" but not a viable policy or solution to immigration issues.

For some reason, however, the Democrats in charge of these sanctuary jurisdictions expressed outrage at Trump's proposal.

"The extent of this administration's cynicism and cruelty can not be overstated", spokesperson Ashley Etienne said for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in a statement on Friday.

But White House officials are emphasizing that the plan "never went anywhere". "The American people have resoundingly rejected this Administration's toxic anti-immigrant policies, and Democrats will continue to advance immigration policies that keep us safe and honor our values".

"I was asked my opinion and provided it, and my advice was heeded", he said in a statement.
