'Avengers' moviegoers in California may have been exposed to measles

Officials in L.A. County declared an outbreak last week.

The woman, who is in her 20s, reported having recently traveled to a country with widespread measles activity, the agency added.

The health department warned of "potential exposures" at a Giant Eagle Market District at 5550 Centre Ave. on Friday and Sunday and an Aldi at 5631 Baum Blvd. on Friday. The next day she went to the emergency room.

Word of the latest cases came as California State University, Los Angeles, and the University of California, Los Angeles, announced that almost all of the almost 800 total students and staff members who recently came in contact with infected students had been released from quarantine.

UPMC is notifying and evaluating patients and staff who may have come in contact with the individual when they were at the hospital.

The woman visited multiple places locally, so officials are concerned others may have contracted the highly infectious illness.

Symptoms include rash, high fever, cough and red, watery eyes.

"Most importantly, get your measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine as soon as possible if you haven't already done so", she said. "It spreads very easily by air and by direct contact with an infected person, and is contagious from approximately four days before the rash appears through four days after the rash appears".
