Chelsea Manning Released From Prison

On the day of her release, her lawyers say she received another Grand Jury summons to testify about her knowledge of Wikileaks. Manning was issued another subpoena while in jail to appear before a second grand jury, but has no intention of cooperating, the former analyst's lawyers said.

The judge said she would be held until she made a decision to testify or until the grand jury concluded its work.

Former army intelligence analyst and convicted leaker Chelsea Manning was freed from jail Thursday after spending 62 days behind bars for refusing to testify before a grand jury.

Manning was jailed for contempt of court on March 8, after she refused to testify before the grand jury that is now investigating WikiLeaks. "Unfortunately, even prior to her release, Chelsea was served with another subpoena", her lawyers said in a statement, according to BBC.

In 2013, she was sentenced to 35 years in prison, but her sentence was commuted in 2017 by then-President Barack Obama.

But in April, federal prosecutors in the United States unsealed a computer hacking indictment against Assange for his role Manning's disclosure of classified documents, which the government called "one of the largest compromises of classified information in the history of the United States".

U.S. prosecutors are seeking the extradition of Assange from the United Kingdom, where he is serving a 50-week jail term for skipping bail, to face charges of conspiracy to commit computer intrusion.

Lyft hits record low as Uber slumps in Wall Street debut
It adjusted losses of $1.8 billion, an improvement over losses of $2.6 billion in 2017, according to its IPO filing. Uber's growth has slowed precipitously recently; in the first quarter, the company said revenue rose just 18%-20%.

Moira Meltzer-Cohen, Manning's attorney, filed a motion earlier this week on the basis that she would never cooperate with a grand jury.

Her lawyers fear her freedom may be short-lived, though. The Justice Department is poised to potentially add further charges against Mr. Assange, however, and have 60 days since requesting extradition to argue their case for taking custody.

Meanwhile, Assange was arrested last month after seeking asylum for the past seven years at the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

Manning has consistently refused to answer questions pertaining to WikiLeaks.

Civil contempt is meant to be coercive rather than punitive.

Manning stated in the filing that her confinement, "proves my long held belief that grand juries are simply outdated tools used by the federal government to harass and disrupt political opponents and activists".

While Manning said she only did so to spark debates about foreign policy, United States officials said the leak put lives at risk.
