Pentagon officials are expected to meet with members of the White House national security team as soon as Thursday to discuss a plan, CNN reported citing three U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

Pentagon officials are scheduled to brief senior members of President Donald Trump's national security team as soon as Thursday on a plan that could send thousands of additional United States troops to the Middle East amid rising tensions with Iran, according to three U.S. officials familiar with the effort.

A CENTCOM request for 5,000 troops was reported by Reuters on Wednesday, citing two anonymous USA officials.

She smiled happily as she was shown around the garden, which was created to promote the wellbeing benefits of getting outdoors. Earlier this month, the Queen sought to raise her online presence by recruiting a social media manager.

The officials say no decision has been made and it's not clear if the White House will approve sending all or just some of the requested forces.

The Pentagon regularly receives, and declines, requests from combatant commands throughout the world for additional resources. It would come just two days after acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan declared Tuesday on Capitol Hill that the United States does not want the situation to escalate and does not seek a war.

"Our biggest focus at this point is to prevent Iranian miscalculation". We do not want the situation to escalate.

Washington has already sent a carrier strike group, a number of B-52 strategic bombers, and a unit of Patriot missile defense batteries to the region, citing intelligence warnings of an "imminent threat" by Iran. "Absolutely, but we have not planned for that", Trump told reporters on May 14. We are not about going to war.
