Fantasy film Willow could be headed to Disney Plus as TV series

The original fantasy film came from a George Lucas story and was produced by Lucasfilm, so a Disney+ series adaptation would seem like a natural fit, given how many other Lucasfilm projects are in the works for the streaming platform. And while the director has entertained rumors in the past year with vague mentions of "discussions" with Lucasfilm and Disney, a Willow sequel project may finally be happening.

As per /Film, Howard - who directed it, from a story by Lucas - was on MTV's "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, and said there's real talk of turning Willow into a TV show.

Presumably any Willow sequel series won't be bound by any of the events of the Shadow War books. He says Jon Kasdan, one of the writers on Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story, has been "hounding" him about rebooting his cult fave. This is the first time that Howard as revealed that Kasdan is spearheading this project, which explains why Howard was so vague on his own involvement in the project. The sequel to Willow would probably meet the same fate, if the Disney+ series goes forward.

'I don't want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow...

The original movie followed the dwarf Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis), who is tasked with protecting an infant, Elora Danan, who, according to prophesy, will destroy the nefarious Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh).

The original Earthworm Jim appeared on the Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Game Gear, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Super Nintendo, and PC. Today is a pretty big day for retro gaming fans.

He went on to confirm it is a continuation of the original film, and Warwick Davis would, 'be in it.

Willow may be returning to the small screen.

"Warwick is so cool and so good and he's such a good actor that I really hope we get the chance to see the mature Willow in action", noted Howard.

Joanne Whalley, Billy Barty and Kevin Pollak all also starred.
