Honor unveils affordable, high-end quad-camera smartphones

Honor 20 Pro

Honor 20 Pro

There were the camera specs of the Honor 20 Pro and the same hasn't been carried over for the Honor 20. Without further ado, let's dive in to which is truly superior.

"The ethics of the Honor brand reflects a desire for constant improvement, which applies to whatever we do" said George Zhao, President of Honor, "The new Honor 20 series invites users to capture the magic, thanks to a professional photographic sector and the attractive dynamic holographic design". The honor 20 Lite has been priced at 299 Euros and when it eventually makes it to India, we expect it to be priced below the INR 17k mark. And if you need to zoom in to the action, the 8MP telephoto camera gives effectively 3x zoom, extendable to 10x with Hybrid Zoom, which has a minimal drop in image quality.

The Honor 20 holds a 3,750mAh battery pack whereas Honor 20 Pro packs in a larger 4,000mAh battery pack, with 22.5W Honor Supercharge support in tow.

By a respectable margin, the OnePlus 7 Pro wins this round, though both are attractive and well-designed by 2019 phone standards.

The Honor 20 Pro comes in Phantom Black (a mix of purple and black) and Phantom Blue (mix of blue and green).

The large, 6.26-inch "all-view" LCD display with 1080p resolution of the 20/Pro returns ~92% screen-to-body ratio, says Honor, thanks to the hole-in-display front camera design, and there will be no fingerprint unlocking issues, as the scanner is moved to the side instead of using the still-evolving in-display type.

To achieve a stereoscopic effect that changes looks depending on the angle you observe the phone from, Honor used what it calls an "industry-first Triple 3D Mesh technology".

The rest comes down to a numbers game.

The camera department is one area where both the Honor 20 and the Honor 20 Pro have slight differences. Plus, that small hole means there's a lot more room left for the 2340×1080 pixels on the 6.26-inch screens on both phones.

For consumers looking for a more affordable smartphone, Huawei last month unveiled the Honor 20 Lite model. As in, their camera suites are nearly identical: both have 48MP main cameras (f/1.4 for Honor, f/1.6 for OnePlus), 16MP f/2.2 ultrawide lenses, and 8MP f/2.5 telephoto shooters with 3x optical zoom. There is also a fourth camera, which uses a 2-megapixel sensor and serves the primary function of capturing macro shots. We'll have to see how much it comes in handy in our full review. That's exactly what it tried to deliver with the Honor 20, a rival to the Galaxy S10e, OnePlus 7 and iPhone XR. Let us know down in the comments section.

The main and telephoto cameras in the Honor 20 Pro feature 4-axis optical image stabilisation to help ensure sharp handheld night photos.

This one's a little trickier to compare since we haven't tested the Honor 20 Pro, but we can make a bit of an educated guess. The smartphone is powered by in-house Kirin 980 chipset.

The two phones don't have an audio jack but they come with a 9.1 surround sound feature that is said to work with most headphones and earphones. While the Honor 20 ships with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, the Pro version ups the ante at up to 8GB RAM and 256GB internal memory. The OnePlus 7 Pro is the victor here, but you'll have to pay for the privilege.

Both devices are premium mid-range smartphones and will be targeted at those who are not comfortable shelling out 00 (or approx Rs 70,348) for a new phone.

Honor's number series has always been about aesthetics and camera.
