One Of The Best Infotainment Systems Is About To Get Even Better

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has detailed its roadmap for a new connected 'ecosystem, ' launching an Android-based infotainment system and cloud features later this year.

The system will be powered by Android and will use the Harman Ignite cloud-based platform to deliver an enhanced user experience, while also securely managing in-vehicle data over a 4G network - with 5G support.

Fiat Chrysler said on Tuesday it will use technology from Alphabet Inc's Google and Samsung to connect all its vehicles by 2022, providing music and video and facilitating future car-sharing and self-driving capabilities.

The Xbox One and PC release is usually one week after the PS4 launch, so expect it to drop on these platforms on May 7. And what update would be complete without new weapons , customization items, outfits, and even gestures.

Electrified vehicles will also benefit from remote battery management, trip planning, and vehicle-to-grid support. The system will also support FCA's Mobility Services such as pay-by-the-mile options and usage-based vehicle insurance as well as vehicle rental and auto sharing.

According to the automaker, "key components of the system will start to rollout in phases across global regions during the second half of 2019". No word yet on which cars will be the first to use the new system, nor which features will be available from the start.

"By selecting industry leaders such as Samsung and Google, we are making an efficient and responsible utilization of capital to provide advanced technological solutions to our customers worldwide", Harald Wester, FCA's chief technical officer, said in a statement.
