Venezuela's opposition leader Guaido claims support of soldiers in Caracas

The United States is among some 50 countries that recognize Mr Guaido as Venezuela's president, and has imposed sanctions to try to dislodge Maduro who they say won re-election a year ago through fraud.

People react to tear gas near the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Airbase "La Carlota", in Caracas, Venezuela, April 30, 2019.

Anti-government demonstrators gathered in several other cities, although there were no reports that Guaido's supporters had taken control of any military installations. They told us as much over the past few weeks, and we're convinced that the Venezuelan people are going to get their democracy back.

U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton on Tuesday singled out three senior aides to Maduro who he said must make good on commitments they purportedly made to the opposition for a peaceful transition away from Maduro's rule.

"What was going to happen, we were told, was that they would announce their support for the constitution", he told reporters at the State Department.

Lopez said he has been freed by the military.

The Trump administration declared quick and enthusiastic support Tuesday for the Venezuelan opposition effort to spark a military uprising against embattled Maduro, hoping for decisive action in the political crisis that has engulfed the South American nation.

"We've made it clear to Russian Federation in both public and private statements. that we regard the actions they've taken in Venezuela as something we regard with the utmost seriousness" Bolton said.

De Boer: Liverpool (& Van Dijk) would suit De Ligt
It's unlikely De Ligt will want a move to Old Trafford if that doesn't happen given how far his Ajax side have gotten this season. Manchester United reportedly may get their wish granted with Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt amid uncertainty over his future.

"Their plan failed, their call failed, because Venezuela wants peace". "The Maduro regime, while it exists will still be illegitimate and completely incapable of solving the problems of the Venezuelan people".

The national security adviser downplayed a televised scene of a military vehicle running over demonstrators who had been pelting the armored personnel carrier with stones.

Locals of Doral Florida fathered in the neighorhood known as Little Venezuela after news broke that Guaido was calling for a military uprising this morning.

In Caracas, Maduro's supporters rallied, chanting slogans of support while some people were giving out posters of Maduro with the Venezuelan flag behind him.

US President Donald Trump is monitoring the situation.

In 2013, he succeeded the late Hugo Chavez, who had come to power in 1998 by winning an election following his unsuccessful coup attempt. Turkey also criticized the opposition.

While the opposition leader claimed that more officers were ready to desert, Maduro stated that 80 percent of troops involved in the mutiny attempt had abandoned Guaido, with only a small group of about 20 officers "handing over their souls to the coup-mongering far right". The United Nations and other countries urged a peaceful solution and dialogue.
