But Gatland, speaking after announcing his World Cup training squad, said that while he had been contacted about potential jobs following the World Cup, there had been no word from England's governing Rugby Football Union.

Asked about his future, Gatland said: "I've had quite a number of approaches from different places". "It is a matter of making the right decision at the right time, so it's just weighing those things up".

"If it does go on any longer then I think it would".

Prop Carre, who will join Saracens later this year, and wing Lane have both been selected in a group that comprises 19 backs and 23 forwards.

The World Cup will be Gatland's final tournament in charge of Wales - before handing the reigns to current Scarlets coach Wayne Pivac - and Gatland will depart as the only coach in history to win three Championship Grand Slams.

Bath's British and Irish Lions number eight Taulupe Faletau, who has missed much of this season due to injury, is selected along with back-row colleagues Aaron Shingler and James Davies.

"We have created some great competition in the squad and there are a couple of players on the injury list at the moment that we could add into the squad at a later date depending on their recovery".

'We've named a 42-man squad, packed with experience.

Wales, on a 14-test winning streak, will play warm-up games against England and Ireland home and away in August and September. "So it might not involve making too many changes and mean some players might not get the same opportunities".
