In video footage released by the sheriff's office, a man can be seen kneeling in grass next to the infant, telling emergency responders that he heard the baby crying from his home.

Now thousands of people have reached out hoping to give "baby India" a second chance, with more than 1,000 people from around the world offering to adopt the little survivor.

The baby, who is now in the care of the county's Division of Family and Children Services, was discovered with her umbilical cord still attached.

Forsyth County sheriff Ron Freeman said it was "divine intervention" that India was found in a good condition.

While Rawlings said he couldn't disclose too much about where India is now due to confidentiality reasons, he personally checks up on her.

"She is a tough little girl and she is doing well", Freeman added.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the little girl's apparent abandonment and are hoping that seeing the video will encourage people to come forward with information.

The sheriff also issued a reminder that Georgia's Safe Haven law allows a child's mother to leave her baby "up to 30 days old, with an employee of any medical facility including any hospital, institutional infirmary, health center or birthing center in Georgia without prosecution".
