Bill Gates says his biggest mistake was not inventing Android

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates revealed the biggest mistake he's ever made

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates revealed the biggest mistake he's ever made

Now a technology advisor at Microsoft, Gates said he only spends about one-sixth of his time at the company and devotes much of his time to his philanthropic foundation and an energy venture fund which makes investments aimed at helping curb emissions and reverse climate change. That combined with limited support by manufacturers and a need for another reset with Windows Phone 8 ultimately sealed the fate of the platform.

He revealed the device will have two 9-inch screens with a 4:3 aspect ratio, will run WCOS (Windows Core OS) with a dual display UI, will be an always-connected LTE or 5G device powered by 10nm Intel Lakefield processors, run Android apps and offer iCloud services.

Bill Gates too seemed amazed that having made one of the greatest mistakes of all time, Microsoft is still one of the leading companies. Even so, he does readily admit to the "greatest mistake ever" during his heyday at Microsoft, and it is a big one.

Microsoft has since focused its efforts on its cloud computing business and the Windows 10 operating system used on desktop computers and laptops.

Formula E: Vergne closes in on Formula E title
However, Vergne was able to survive the pressure and won the race 1.25 secs ahead of Evans, with Buemi taking 3 place. Maybe the DS vehicle is wider! I have more of a lead than previous year which is good and it's flawless for the team.

Gates said in the software world, especially for platforms, it is a "winner-take-all" market.

Speaking along similar lines, Bill Gates revealed one of his greatest mistakes was when Microsoft missed the opportunity of building something like Android. That is, Android is the standard non-Apple phone platform. "But its famed philanthropist founder still believes it could've done more than merely dominate the PC market, claiming that this one area of "mismanagement" cost the company "$400bn that would be transferred from company G to company M".

"It really is victor take all". Gates sees Microsoft's other assets, like Windows and Office, as "still very strong".

At an event last week with other business leaders, billionaire businessman Gates chatted to Eventbrite cofounder and CEO Julia Hartz about founding a company. However, Gates feels that in addition to being a leading company, Microsoft could have been "the company", had it executed in mobile.
