USA president Donald Trump has criticised U.S. women's team co-captain Megan Rapinoe on Twitter, telling her not to "disrespect our country" after she said she would not visit the White House if they won the World Cup.

In a video of the exchange that has since been posted on social media, Rapinoe, 33, adds, "No".

Appropriate? The president was asked about Rapinoe's disrespect and whether or not it is appropriate during an interview with The Hill. At this year's World Cup, she does not sing along during pregame ceremonies.

In this Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, file photo, United States' Megan Rapinoe, right, kicks the ball past Sweden's Lisa Dahlkvist.

But Rapinoe has shut down any chance of visiting the White House if they happen to lift the trophy.

"I'm not going to the f--ing White House. No".

"Finish the job! We haven't yet.invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose".

Rapinoe has form, having supported former NFL star Colin Kaepernick's decision to kneel, rather than stand, during the playing of the national anthem at games to protest racism and police brutality.

As always, there's a lot to unpack.

San Francisco becomes 1st major USA city to ban e-cigarettes
San Francisco's mayor has indicated that she will sign off on the new law, which will come into force seven months after she does. But the move triggered a swift backlash from critics who say it could drive former smokers back to conventional cigarettes.

Check out the glaringly racist undertones to his comments about the National Basketball Association, which has seen its championship teams refuse to visit the White House because Trump is, well, racist. He also tied in some seemingly unrelated commentary about criminal justice reform and black unemployment. None of that is about Megan Rapinoe.

Rapinoe, who netted two penalties to send Team USA through to the quarter-finals of the Women's World Cup, had previously stated: "I'm not going to the f*cking White House if we win".

A furious Trump wasted no time in wading into the latest of his public feuds with high-profile athletes and celebrities.

"Be proud of the Flag that you just build on".

Ahead Alex Morgan acknowledged forward of the occasion that she would no longer accumulate an invite from the president. But things were a little different in 2015. She said she was a "walking protest when it comes to the Trump administration".

And beyond all of that, that three-tweet thread was his second attempt.

Trump initially tagged the wrong account - a Megan Rapino with only two followers - before deleting the thread and retagging the U.S. star's actual account.

"That said, I believe we should always value the use of our voice and platform to fight for equality of every kind", she said, according to ESPN.

Trump has somehow made an enemy of two different Megans Rapino/Rapinoe.
