The studio knew exactly what they were going to receive, and this Midway trailer reveals Emmerich did not stray from his usual formula.

The film zeroes in on the June 1942 Battle of Midway, where US soldiers and pilots attempt to sway the war's course following the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. But for his next movie, he's taking his talents to the Pacific theater of World War II.

Oddly enough, the screenwriter for this particular flick is Wes Tooke, best known for Colony and an episode of the hilarious but too-short run Jean-Claude Van Johnson.

With a star-studded cast led by Charlton Heston and Hendra Fonda, Universal Pictures" 1976 feature "Midway' was directed by Jack Smight and produced by Walter Mirisch from a screenplay by Donald S. Sanford. The film, based on the real-life events of this heroic feat, tells the story of the leaders and soldiers who used their instincts, fortitude and bravery to overcome the odds.

Midway boasts an ensemble cast of global names including Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Etsushi Toyokawa, Tadanobu Asano, Luke Kleintank, Jun Kunimura, Darren Criss, Keean Johnson, Alexander Ludwig, with Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid and Woody Harrelson.

Starlight Entertainment Group and Providence Entertainment Limited are financing Midway. USA and China theatrical distribution is already set with Lionsgate to release through its Summit Entertainment label stateside and Bona Film Group to release in Greater China.

Midway will officially hit theaters on November 8, 2019, joining an illustrious crowd that includes Wonder Woman 1984 (Nov. 1), Sonic the Hedgehog (Nov. 8) and Terminator 6 (Nov. 15).
