Jay-Z is Reportedly The First Rapper to Become a Billionaire

Jay-Z, who grew up in a Brooklyn housing project, rose to fame in 1996 with his debut album Reasonable Doubt.

All that has helped him to become the first billionaire rapper, according to Forbes.

JAY-Z now holds the title of being Hip-Hop's first billionaire.

Jay-Z has been much more than a rapper, realizing that he needed to build how own brands rather than promote someone else's. His sixth album, 2001's The Blueprint, was added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry - reserved for albums that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" - earlier this year.

Forbes calculates that Jay-Z has around $220 million in cash and investments, which includes an estimated $70 million stake in Uber, which he purchased for $2 million in 2013.

It was often assumed that Dr Dre reached billionaire status in 2014 after selling his Beats headphone business to Apple.

After bragging, what's better than one billionaire - Jay-Z officially is one.

"Jay is teaching in a lot bigger classroom than I'll ever teach in", Warren Buffett once said to Forbes magazine, "For a young person growing up, he's the guy to learn from".
