Katie Taylor earns controversial win to become undisputed lightweight champion

Speaking on last night's BBC Radio 5 Live coverage of Katie Taylor's title unification victory over Delfine Persoon, former world champion, Carl Frampton, branded the result a 'disgraceful decision'.

The Wicklow orthodox put her IBF/WBA/WBO belts on the line against Persoon's WBC strap, but the Flanders orthodox, who stormed out of the ring in disgust and in tears after the decision was announced, nearly walked off with the lot and has a clear case for a rematch. Judges scored the bout 95-95, 96-94, 96-94 in scores that easily could have gone - and many would argue should have gone - in favor of Belgium's Persoon.

Former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton, part of BBC Radio 5 Live's commentary team in NY, was less optimistic at the prospect of a rematch.

More pressure from Persoon in the fifth, bringing the fight to Taylor - who was standing and trading with Persoon against the ropes and trying to fight fire with fire. "It is heartbreaking to see Delfine Persoon in tears".

Katie Taylor's promoter Eddie Hearn believes the Irishwoman will be determined for a rematch with Delfine Persoon to "set the record straight".

Taylor, ever the perfectionist, analysed her performance afterwards saying there were errors, but she felt she had done enough.

It seems even in victory though Taylor's frustrations and demands for respect niggled at her.

John Bercow: I'm staying put as Commons Speaker until Brexit is decided
Speaking to the Guardian after his Washington speech, Bercow said , "I've never said anything about going in July of this year". He said he would like to be remembered "as a backbenchers' champion".

"I definitely felt I did enough, especially earlier on in the fight".

"I knew it was going to be the hardest fight of my career but I am born for fights like these".

"This is what I've dreamed of since turning pro", she said to RTE.

"I probably should have been more disciplined". But I am great at digging deep.

"It was one of the best women's fights I have ever seen, this was the elite level".

"It all made for a fantastic showcase for women's boxing".
