The Raspberry Pi 4

Version 4 (Model B) of the world's most well-known and widely adopted SBC kicks the processor specification up the stairs from the RPi 3B+'s quad-core Cortex A53 to Broadcomm's BCM2711 that features 4 x 1.5GHz A72 cores. No wonder the Raspberry Pi foundation is now promising performance in line with "entry-level x86 PC systems".

While the dimensions of the board have remained the same, the new port configuration does mean that the Raspberry Pi 4 won't fit in cases made for older models. Raspberry Pi 4 also now comes with more options for the memory, and for the first time ever you can choose between 3 different RAM variations. It can decode 4K videos at 60fps using HEVC/H.265, render OpenGL ES 3.0 graphics, and can even output 4K video to a monitor. The Raspberry Pi 4 Desktop kit includes the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, 4GB edition with official keyboard, mouse, 2 × micro HDMI to Standard HDMI (A/M) 1m Cables, the aforementioned official USB-C power supply, a case, a beginners guide, and a 16GB NOOBS with Raspbian microSD card, all for approximately $120 United States dollars.

The Raspberry Pi 4 arrives a bit ahead of schedule, and with a familiar form factor. The Raspberry Pi org has decided to make more units of the 3GB version to start with but will adjust it manufacturing in response to demand.

Amazon Explores Having Its Drones Provide 'Home Surveillance' For Customers
Indeed, while Amazon has been talking up drone delivery since 2013, it has never quite managed to get off the ground. The patent states the cameras could capture infrared, thermal or night-vision imaging, as well as audio.

USB gets a big boost to 3.0 in two ports. For the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, which was the first in the range to boast "gigabit" Ethernet, it's clear to see the problem: The Ethernet port is limited to around 230Mb/s throughput, which immediately plummets if you're writing or reading to a storage device connected to one of the board's four USB ports.

There's also the matter of the move of the ethernet port. The Raspberry Pi 4 is a major overhaul and their most radical update yet while base pricing still starts out at $35 United States dollars. Each upgrade adds $10 to the $25 starting price. $55 gets you the fully-loaded model with 4GB. It is available in the Raspberry Pi Store (online) and at the company's store in Cambridge, UK, as well as from a few authorized retailers.

If you would like a Raspberry Pi 4 today, then they're already available for purchase.
