Reddit restricts pro-Trump community because of threats

Those violations, the company said, include threats of violence directed toward police and public officials in OR, where the Democratic governor has ordered the state police to look for Republican lawmakers who had fled the state in protest of a climate change bill.

The quarantine does not block or delete the forum but requires visitors to see a warning message and to explicitly opt-in to view it.

Back at Reddit, the thread the company punished describes itself as "a never-ending rally dedicated to the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump", though experts who have monitored the forum's content have said it has been a platform in which misogynistic, anti-Islam and white nationalist rhetoric is commonplace.

As a candidate in 2016, Trump held an "Ask Me Anything" session on the subreddit in which he fielded questions from members. "As a result, we have actioned individual users and quarantined the subreddit".

That subreddit is now at risk of going away due to violations of the site's content policy.

"However, recent behaviors including threats against the police and public figures is content that is prohibited by our violence policy".

OR made headlines recently after Gov. Kate Brown called in police to try to locate Republicans who walked off the job in protest over a cap-and-trade bill.

Members of the subreddit responded angrily to the move, with some accusing the platform of bias against conservatives.

The announcement comes amid repeated criticism from Trump that social networks are biased against conservatives.

On May 15, the administration launched a website and urged the USA public to report instances of political bias on social media platforms.

In a message to The_Donald's moderators, Reddit administrators explained that the community had been quarantined because of threats of violence from rogue users. "Absolutely not. A community of over 700,000 Patriots. suddenly silenced..."

One moderator tweeted about the quarantine saying they were stripped of their ability to moderate the subreddit.

Reddit administrators took action against the site's pro-Trump subreddit.

After years of calls to ban the community r/The_Donald, Reddit is cracking down on the infamous subreddit by quarantining it, a feature that was revamped in 2018.
