SpaceX's Falcon Heavy rocket is set to launch for the STP-2 mission on Monday June 24

The remains of 152 people are on board the upcoming Falcon Heavy launch.

When Elon Musk's huge Falcon Heavy rocket lifts off for just the third time Monday evening, it will be carrying the remains of over 100 earthlings to orbit.Spaceflight memorial company Celestis is sending individual canisters containing the cremated remains of its clients into space, where they will orbit our planet until their cosmic urns eventually re-enter Earth's atmosphere and burn up just like a shooting star. Central Floridians could hear multiple sonic booms. Weather remains favorable for launch.

During tonight's launch - assuming it proceeds during its scheduled launch window - the human remains will be released into orbit aboard one of two dozen satellites the Falcon Heavy is hauling.

As with every rocket launch, Kennedy Space Center allows visitors to watch the launch from the main complex and from special lawn areas just miles from pad 39A.

Tonight's launch is for the STP-2 mission, which is run by the U.S. Air Force through its Space Test Program (STP), and aims to "provide spaceflight for advanced research and development satellites from many U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) research laboratories, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and universities", according to the mission's description page. Residents along the coast could hear multiple sonic booms. It is using the same ones from the second launch back in April.
