Grand Prairie police said that Dalia Jimenez, 20, was arrested and charged for intentionally harming her stepdaughter.

A suburban Dallas woman has been charged after police say she doused her 5-year-old stepdaughter's face with rubbing alcohol and set it on fire. Police said that Jimenez told officers that the injury to the child had been the result of an accident lighting a candle. But, police said there were inconsistences in her story.

The girl suffered burns on her cheeks down to her jawline, with smaller burns on her shoulders.

"It was about an hour long conversation, but ultimately at the end of that conversation she did confess to me that she had intentionally burned the 5-year-old for yelling previously in the home", said Detective Greg Parker.

But, she did complain that her face was hurting. "That the girl had suffered a broken arm in 2018, so we chose to move forward with a forensic interview", Det. Parker said the child's burns were left untreated for two days.

Child Protective Services has removed the victim and her younger sibling from the home. Both are now safe with other family members.

Police say the child's father wasn't home at the time and isn't considered a suspect. He is not expected to face any charges.

Jimenez was released from the Grand Prairie detention facility after posting $20,000 bond.
