Apple has shifted the manufacturing of its Mac Pro computer from the U.S.to China, a Friday report stated.

Production of the world's most expensive cheese grater is said to be ramping up "at a factory near Shanghai", the WSJ's sources told it, noting that Quanta's facility is close to other Apple suppliers across Asia, making it possible for Apple to achieve lower shipping costs than if it shipped components to the US.

'Like all of our products, the new Mac Pro is designed and engineered in California and includes components from several countries including the United States, ' an Apple spokesman said.

An Apple spokesperson defended the move, telling the Wall Street Journal that the company assembles products in 30 U.S. states, and past year spent $60 billion with over 9,000 USA suppliers, supporting jobs for 2 million Americans.
