With a smile, Trump tells Putin 'don't meddle in the election'

During the meeting, Mr. Trump jokingly told Putin not to "meddle" with the next USA election.

But special counsel Mueller's report found no evidence that the Trump campaign criminally conspired with Russian Federation to influence the election.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, while standing alongside the USA president a year ago at a summit in Helsinki, admitted to reporters his preference was for Trump over Clinton.

The former president seemed to be referring to a 2017 analysis from the Director of National Intelligence, which, while speaking for 17 USA intelligence agencies, was specifically relying on three of those agencies - the CIA, FBI and NSA - when it said the US intelligence community had concluded Russian Federation interfered in the election. He playfully repeated the request.

Trump and Putin had been scheduled to meet at the end of November at the last G20 in Buenos Aires, but Trump canceled the meeting as he flew to Argentina, citing Russia's seizure of Ukrainian navy ships and sailors.

In response to questions, Carter was also critical of Trump and his administration on other issues, including its treatment of migrant children at the U.S. -Mexico border.

Putin's meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, their first full-fledged talks since their 2018 summit in Helsinki, Finland, was watched closely for the impact it may have on troubled U.S. -Russia ties. His aides have grown anxious that Trump could use the meeting to once again attack special counsel Robert Mueller's probe on the world stage, particularly since Mueller recently agreed to testify before Congress next month.

"What I say to him is none of your business", he said at the White House.

The leaders also have announced their withdrawal from a key arms control pact, the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

The National Security Agency, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Central Intelligence Agency all concluded the Russians interfered in the presidential election.

Earlier, Trump held a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, during which the two discussed disarmament, the North Korean threat and Iran, according to the White House.

First of all, President Trump won the 2016 election fair and square.

The sit-down with Putin came amid a gauntlet of negotiations on worldwide crises and trade wars.

The Prime Minister used the meeting with Mr Putin to say the United Kingdom remained "open to a different relationship" with the Kremlin but for that to happen "the Russian government must choose a different path".

The comments were made prior to the G20 summit in Osaka.

The three leaders did a group fist bump as they posed for a photo Friday's meeting on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Osaka, Japan. Audio and video technicians who were allowed in the room at the start of the meeting did not pick up that quip, nor did a US government stenographer on a transcript released by the White House.
