"Orlando Pirates Football Club is saddened by the news of the passing of former striker Marc Batchelor who was shot in Johannesburg last night".

News24 confirmed that Batchelor was shot multiple times through the driver's window of his vehicle by two gunmen on motorbikes in Olivedale, Johannesburg on Monday night.

"Marc was very passionate about the game".

Investigators say the motive for Monday shooting is not known, and they have not yet identified a suspect.

"He was attacked by two men who were driving a motorbike", a police spokesman told the South African Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday.

Pictures of the scene show at least seven bullet holes in the car's window, and at least one other bullet hole in the driver's door panel. "The motive is yet to be established, but we are investigating".

The well-known former Kaizer Chiefs player died after attackers opened fire from the back of motorbikes.

It has been reported that no arrests have been made yet.

"He died inside the auto and they drove away without taking anything", Col. Dlamini said.
