A Hong Kong actor was suddenly stabbed in the stomach in front of cameras and a shocked audience after an attacker stormed the stage at a promotional event in mainland China.

An enormously popular Hong Kong actor who has a number of American movie credits - is in the hospital after a man jumped onstage and stabbed him. and the dramatic scene plays out on video.

A suspect was detained following the attack in the Zhongshan Huoju Development Zone in Guangdong province, police said.

Video shows a man rush onto the stage and remove a weapon from his pocket.

In a statement issued hours after the stabbing, Yam's management company Emperor Entertainment Group said Yam has undergone minor operations for his injuries on his stomach and on his right hand, and was in a stable condition.
