House panel authorizes subpeonas in migrant separation policy probe

The vote also authorized the issuing of subpoenas relating to the administration's zero-tolerance immigration-enforcement policy. Numerous officials on the subpoena list are featured prominently in the special counsel's report, and Democrats say they need to speak to them as they debate whether to begin an impeachment inquiry.

The panel's subpoenas are certain to meet resistance from the White House, which has already blocked testimony from former White House Counsel Don McGahn, former White House deputy counsel Annie Donaldson and former White House communications director Hope Hicks.

Trump has lodged numerous complaints about investigations into his administration and continued Wednesday with a tweet saying, "The Dems Witch Hunt continues!"

Ahead of the vote on the resolution, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, said that "children are still being separated from their families" at the U.S. -Mexico border. The people spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a private conversation.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a recent report that some of the migrants being held at detention centers on the border may have been mistreated.

Mueller made a surprise on-camera announcement in May at the Justice Department with a clear message that he did not want to testify and that he "would not provide information beyond that which is already public in any appearance before Congress".

Despite being loaded on offense, the Cardinals have been inefficient in 2019 and rank near the bottom-10 in runs and home runs. Louis has title-winning pedigree and are loaded offensively, but thus far simply haven’t delivered consistent results.

The testimony will also mark Mueller's first public appearance related to his investigation since delivering his 10-minute statement on May 29, during which he detailed his findings and explained his decision not to reach a conclusion on whether Trump obstructed justice, despite reporting at least ten instances of possible obstruction by Trump in his report.

The episode is the latest example of Trump administration efforts to stymie congressional investigations by directing current and former officials not to cooperate with investigators who are seeking evidence of corruption, obstruction of justice and abuse of power in the Trump presidency.

Trump ripped the Judiciary Committee's move early Thursday on Twitter, erroneously stating that Mueller concluded there was "no collusion, no obstruction".

In addition to the subpoenas against the Trump officials, the panel voted to issue one to David Pecker, who helped Mr Trump buy the silence of pornographic film actress during the 2016 election.

"We have questions about when he arrived at the decision that there was no collusion, that there was no effort to conspire with Russian Federation, and why he continued after that point to pursue his investigation", said Cline.

Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia, the committee's top Republican, was among the members who described a format that would have Mueller leave to appear before the House Intelligence Committee, a smaller panel where all members are expected to have time to ask questions. "Here we go again on another round of premature subpoena authorizations", Collins said.
