While players like John Mikel Obi and Striker, Odion Ighalo did not return with the team back to Nigeria, Ahmed Musa led the rest of the team back to the country.

Sharing a photo of himself in the national jersey, Mikel Obi wrote: "Egypt is a country where I started and have finished my national career".

"He has been very strong for us".

"In 2006 I played my first official championship for my Country".

Speaking moments after the 32-year-old Mikel announced he was retiring from national team duties, Rohr, who guided Nigeria to a third place finish at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, insists the position is open for youngsters playing regularly for their clubs. "And it is sad that he wants not to continue", the Super Eagles coach said, as per ESPN.

"But the door always is open for him any time".

The former Chelsea and Middlesbrough midfielder made the announcement on Thursday afternoon after leading the Nigerian team to a bronze medal finish at the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

The 32-year old made his debut appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations thirteen years ago in Egypt.

Heat and humidity this weekend
By the time this heat wave ends Monday, the count of 90-degree days should close in on the top five most year-to-date. Make sure you're drinking liquids even when you don't feel like you need it, especially if you're sweating.

"My national career started in 2003, U17 World Cup, and I'm grateful for the national team for placing me on the world arena and giving me an opportunity to show my skill and have an incredible national and global career".

Nigeria beats Tunisia to win bronze.

This is the second time that the midfielder is calling it quits after an enterprising career. "He's one of the legends now".

"Let me warmly welcome our great team from Cairo, Egypt". We will miss him.

Secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, delivered the message on behalf of the head of states, adding that they were good ambassadors of the country away from home.

The Super Eagles, who arrived Nigeria on Friday morning, were given a rousing welcome by the government and Nigerian football supporters who defied the rain to welcome their stars home.

This is the 8th time Nigeria will win an AFCON bronze medal, a feat no other country has ever matched.
