Wasim Akram feels fast bowlers peak at 27 years of age in Test cricket

Former Pakistan cricketers Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar expressed their disappointment at Mohammad Amir's decision to retire from Test cricket at a young age. "I'm unable to understand how the 27-year-old Amir can retire, especially when Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has invested on him a lot", he asked.

According to the 53-year-old, Pakistan will need Amir in the upcoming two Tests in Australia (November-December) and then in the Test series in England (slated for next year).

Following a shocking early exit from Test cricket at the age of 27, Pakistan's pacer Muhammad Amir is now looking for British citizenship with an to settle down permanently in United Kingdom after retirement. "However, we respect his decision and look forward to him continuing to play an integral role in white ball cricket for Pakistan", he concluded. With his announcement, Amir has made it clear that he will not be available for Pakistan's Test Series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to be played in UAE. "Was time to repay & not eject", Raja wrote.

Amir was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan in the recent 50-overs World Cup in England with 17 wickets but the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side finished fifth in the group stage and narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot.

"Cricket is different since 2010 and if you look back I have lost five precious years of my career", Amir told Cricinfo then. "So, keeping in mind my fitness and other things, I decided that I should focus on white-ball cricket", he signed off.

Akram said he was surprised by Aamir's decision as Test cricket is the pinnacle of the game and a cricketer attains greatness only by proving his worth in the longest format. It was time for Amir to pay back Pakistan. "Now that he was in good form, he has retired", Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

"I played Test, ODI, and T20 cricket consistently for three years and my body didn't get enough rest". Amir, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, all these players want to play only in the T20Is. Amir's decision, however, to didn't go down well with Pakistani pace stalwarts, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar.

The fast bowler also expressed gratitude to his teammates, opponents, and Pakistan cricket board for providing him with the opportunity to play red-ball cricket.

The left-arm pacer further said it was not easy for him to make that decision which he had been thinking for quite some time.
