American Airlines says it will keep the Boeing 737 Max plane off its schedule until November 3, 2019, which is two months longer than it had planned.

United Airlines is canceling at least 5,000 more flights in the wake of the Boeing 737 Max groundings.

American Airlines previously announced March 24 that it was extending its cancellations through April 24.

The 737 MAX, which had been Boeing's fastest-selling aircraft thanks to its fuel-efficient engines and longer ranger, was grounded worldwide in March after an Ethiopian Airlines plane plunged to the ground soon after take-off, five months after a similar Lion Air fatal crash off the coast of Indonesia. It amounts to roughly 115 flight cancellations per day.

Robert Downey Jr. gets vocal about his life after 'Avengers: Endgame'
The only regret any fans had with the movie was that they would not be able to see the iconic iron man character played by Robert Downey junior.

"Boeing will not offer the 737 Max for certification by the FAA until we have satisfied all requirements for certification of the Max and it's safe return to service", the company said in a statement at the time. "We are in continuous contact with... regulatory authorities". It said it "remains confident" that the Boeing plane will be recertified this year.

The FAA has said it is following a thorough process but has no timetable for when the recertification will be completed.

That issue requires an additional patch by Boeing that will be included in the final package of flight-control software to be reviewed by global regulators before the Max is clear for flight. Last week, CBS News reported orders for all 737 models - including the Max - fell by more than half through June, according to figures released by Boeing. A new potential problem with the jet was discovered during testing - making it possible the 737 Max will be grounded in to late 2019 or early 2020. The Saudi Arabian budget airline instead chose to purchase Airbus jets.

Boeing hopes a software upgrade and new pilot training will add layers of protection to prevent erroneous data from triggering a system called MCAS, which was activated in both the planes before they crashed.
