Chadwick crowned inaugural W Series champion

Ahead of Sunday's season finale, Chadwick enjoyed a 13-point lead over title challenger Beitske Visser, but the 21-year-old launched her race from pole while her Dutch opponent lined up fifth. The race begins at 3:10pm on Sunday.

Chadwick said that was a big plus for the series' credibility, making the dream of Formula One much more attainable for female racers. 'I can't really take it all in.

Chadwick, who started from pole position, described it as the "worst race of my life". For all that she controlled the first few laps from the front, her closest pursuers, Powell and Finland's Emma Kimilainen, swept past her with unexpected ease, soon finding themselves nine seconds up the road.

That put Visser on Chadwick's tail and the Dutchwoman overtook her with three minutes left after a breathtaking passage of wheel-to-wheel action during which the pair made contact.

'I found myself having a bit of wheel-banging, ' said Chadwick.

A spin by Miki Koyama at the entry to Sheene Curve brought out the Safety Car, which closed up the pack.

Will Ferrell performed 6 standup sets as Ron Burgundy last night
He then introduced Ferrell as a "legendary broadcaster", before the 52-year-old comedian took the mic as Ron Burgundy . Season One, which launched in December 2018, included spots from Peter Dinklage , RuPaul and Deepak Chopra .

"Every race, every championship you go into you want to win, but this one especially in its first year and for everything it's managed to generate for me". This has turned my career around and hopefully now we can go on to bigger things'.

Chadwick, who is a development driver for Williams, became the first woman to win a Formula Three race previous year and continues to chase a spot in Formula One.

Chadwick felt the reality, with the series always stating it wanted to prepare women to take on the men in junior series such as Formula Three and Formula Two, had changed some preconceptions.

'There's no certainty as to whether I'll be back, ' she said.

A solid fourth was enough for the latter to seal the W Series and the $500,000 top purse.

'To get the role with Williams is incredible and we'll see what happens in the future'.
