New Lana Del Rey song responds to mass shootings

Lana Del Rey shares two new songs ahead of album release. In an unexpected pairing, Del Rey helped honor the producer when he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier this month.

Earlier this week, Lana Del Rey teased two songs: a cover of Donovan's "Season of the Witch" which is for Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark film adaptation, and "Looking For America", which was written in response to last weekend's tragic shootings.

Incidents at a food festival in Gilroy, California, a shopping mall in El Paso, Texas, and in downtown Dayton, Ohio, have reignited the fierce debate over gun control in America. Lana bares her soul in Looking For America, in an nearly heartbreaking fashion.

The track is now online in full - crafted alongside Jack Antonoff, it's a moving, incisive look at the blackened state of grief America finds itself locked in. The chorus sings, "I'm still looking for my own version of America / One without the gun, where the flag can freely fly / No bombs in the sky, only fireworks when you and I collide".

Del Rey, 34 and known for hits including Video Games and Summertime Sadness, also shared a clip of herself performing the song with an explanation for why she wrote it. She eerily lets the words in the Season of the Witch cover sink in in the chilliest fashion. It's part of the soundtrack for the horror film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, produced by Academy Award victor Guillermo del Toro.
