New Mercedes EQV Is The Cool Van Tesla Doesn't Have

Since the launch of the Sprinter in 1995, Mercedes has sold 3.7 million units in 130 countries, with a 16% spike in demand in the first half of 2019 compared with the same period previous year. As with the V-Class, customers can choose between two lengths and two wheelbases: 5,140 or 5,370 millimeters with 3,200 or 3,430 millimeters. There are also unique 18-inch wheels and a charging port at the front.

The MBUX infotainment system is included.

Various seating arrangements will be available.

Mercedes claims a "provisional" range of 405 km and says rapid charging of the high-voltage battery from 10 to 80 percent takes "less than an hour".

The EQV was previewed by a concept of the same name earlier this year and is due to go on sale in Europe shortly after a world debut at next month's Frankfurt International Motor Show. The top speed is only 160 km/h, but you probably weren't going to show up to a drag race with this, anyway.

An electric powertrain mounted on the front axle with a charging connection in the bumper produces 201 horsepower, enabling the EQV to hit a top speed of 99 miles per hour. The electric motor, fixed-ratio transmission, cooling system and power electronics form what Benz describes as "a highly integrated, compact unit". The EQV comes equipped with a water-cooled on-board charger with a capacity of 11 kW, making it suitable for AC charging at home or at public charging stations.

Mercedes-Benz on Tuesday unveiled the latest addition to its growing family of battery-electric cars grouped under the EQ sub-brand. The installation of the battery in the space below the van's floor means there is no impact on the interior space of the vehicle.
