The former commercial fisherman has called Richmond home his whole life.

Katalinic described the moment he found out he'd won the Lotto Max jackpot: "I went nuts, I tell ya".

"I went to two different 7-Elevens to check it, to check it out again, and here it was three times and I figured, well that's it, I'm a victor", Katalinic said. "Scotch. Straight", Katalinic said. "There was a lot of hugging and kissing, and a lot of emotions".

As for what comes next with his new fortune, Katalinic says he plans to take some family trips to Hawaii and visit the town in Europe where his parents were born. Due to this high level of public interest, the National Lottery has advised players to purchase their tickets early to avoid queues and to be in with a chance of winning the truly life-changing prize on offer.

But that victor remained anonymous in the weeks that followed.

Katalinic's quick pick ticket matched all seven numbers on the July 26 draw.

The victor of a record breaking lottery jackpot - retired commercial fisherman and Richmond resident Joseph Katalinic - says he plans to "live like a king" with his new-found fortune.

It says in a release there have previously been three $50-million winners in the province.

The lottery corporation says the odds of winning at least something are one-in-seven, but the odds of matching all seven numbers in a set are estimated at one-in-33,394,800.
