Sri Lanka to play ODIs in Karachi, T20Is in Lahore

Pakistan after being struck by the 2009 Lahore attack have not hosted many global matches, but since 2015, the country has successfully played limited-overs series against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and West Indies.

The PCB has been continuously stepping up its efforts for restoring global cricket in the country. The Tests will now be played in December. The series will mark the first worldwide action in the country for 18 months.

The Sri Lanka cricket team will arrive in Karachi on September 25 and following their matches in Lahore will fly home on October 10. Even as the One Dayers will be played at the National Stadium in Karachi, the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host the 20-overs fixtures.

The decision to swap matches was made following a 'phone discussion between PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani and SLC President Shammi Silva on Friday.

Eight years later, the Sri Lankans returned to Pakistan for a Twenty20 worldwide in Lahore in October 2017.

Sri Lanka will once again travel to Pakistan for three limited-overs encounters. Sri Lankan cricketers Upul Tharanga, Lasith Malinga, Niroshan Dickwella, Suranga Lakmal, and Akila Dananjaya had then refrained from playing. But the game went off without incident. Since the 2009 attacks, a majority of global teams have refused to tour Pakistan over security fears, forcing Pakistan to play their home matches at neutral venues.

"The PCB is pleased with the outcome of its discussions with SLC, which has supported Pakistan in its efforts and endeavours for the complete revival of global cricket", PCB chairman Ehsan Mani said in a joint statement. "The tour for limited-overs matches will also provide Sri Lanka with an even better understanding of the ground situation before discussing the schedule of the Tests".

Lions starters Ragnow, Davis suffer ankle sprains
Ragnow played 1,074 offensive snaps (99.9 percent) last season and Davis played 976 snaps on defense (98.9). They were able to secure a 14-13 lead at halftime, and held that lead for the remainder of the game.

Ehsan Mani maintained that how can Sri Lanka decide the venue when Pakistan is hosting the series, and affirmed that the governing body will raise the issue in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting scheduled later in the month.

PCB and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) swapped matches of the split series in Pakistan.

SLC president Shammi Silva said the two boards had a long history of friendship and the move strengthened that bond.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed surprise over Sri Lanka's decision of not playing Test match in Pakistan despite a positive security report, Dunya News reported on Friday.

Commenting on the development, Silva said, "The safety and security of its players is the responsibility of SLC, which it takes very seriously".

On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, there were several bomb attacks in churches and hotels all across Sri Lanka, with over 250 people killed and more than 500 injured. Back in 2009, the bus attack on the Sri Lankan team sent shockwaves in the cricketing world.
