Golden Globe victor Ewan McGregor and LucasFilms president Kathleen Kennedy announced Friday at the D23 Expo that he'll reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new original Disney+ series.

The series is now untitled, the script has been written and production is due to begin next year.

There is no premiere date for Obi-Wan, but Disney+ streaming service officially launches November 12.

The online streaming service Disney+ featuring film and television shows will launch November 12 in the U.S. as well as Canada and the Netherlands, before rolling out worldwide.

This will be third live-action "Star Wars" series at Disney+, after "The Mandalorian" and a prequel series centered on Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and K-2SO (Alan Tudyk). However, spin-offs beyond Solo: A Star Wars Story were put on hold last June after the second standalone Star Wars film underperformed at the box office.

It looks like the series will have a darker tone than what we've come to expect from Star Wars, given the battered Stormtrooper masks on pikes and violent action sequences we see in the trailer.

McGregor joined Kennedy on stage to confirm rumors that he would return as the Jedi master who was first portrayed by Alec Guinness in the 1977 original Star Wars.

According to Lucasfilm's onstage presentation, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show will take place eight years after Revenge of the Sith.

Pedro Pascal plays the Mandalorian with Taika Waititi playing a droid called IG-11. And he said very seriously, "I want to be an actor". The company hasn't announced a name for the series at this time.

Disney's remake of the 1955 classic features the voices of Tessa Thompson as Lady and Justin Theroux as Tramp.

"Lizzie McGuire" starring Hilary Duff (R), will stream exclusively on Disney+. She said, "We have all the scripts written".

The 66-year-old Oscar-nominated producer repeated Ewan's question and he replied "Yes" to thunderous applause from the SoCal crowd.

Another Disney property making a return is High School Musical.
