Brooke Skylar Richardson, the OH cheerleader accused of killing her newborn baby before burying the girl in her parents' backyard, was acquitted on murder charges on Thursday, Sept. 12, it was reported.

Richardson, a former high school cheerleader, was found guilty of abuse of a corpse and was scheduled to be sentenced Friday.

The 20-year-old is accused of killing and burying her baby in the backyard of her Carlisle home.

Among the evidence prosecutors pointed to was a text exchange between Richardson and her mother shortly after the child was born, with Richardson writing in part, "I'm literally speechless with how happy I am".

While awaiting the verdict, Richardson, now 20, was visibly shaking. "We love you, baby".

Prosecutors contended that the high school cheerleader wanted to keep her "perfect life" that included plans to begin classes at the University of Cincinnati.

County prosecutor David Fornshell previously said Ms Richardson and her family had been anxious about the community's reaction to her out-of-wedlock pregnancy. Her parents and friends said she hid the pregnancy from them.

Her defence said the baby she named "Annabelle" was stillborn, and the teen was sad and scared.

Prosecutors allege that she intentionally killed her baby, despite the fact that the medical examiner was unable to determine a cause of death.

"This was well overcharged from the get-go, and it was so juicy for the government to think that oh, not only did she murder her baby but she burned her baby, which tainted the whole jury pool, which is exactly what we were afraid of", he said.

"I'm literally so excited for dinner to wear something cute yayy my belly is back now I am takin this opportunity to make it incredible", she texted her mom. "My belly is back omg I am never ever ever letting it get like this again".

She also told police that she looked into an abortion, but it was too late to have one.

A variety of witnesses took the stand over the course of the trial, including the baby's father, who said he never knew about the child.

Video footage of the interview was played in court.

Rittgers, who defended Richardson alongside son Charles M. Rittgers, characterized the case as one tainted by prosecutors' unproven assertions and the attention of the media.

"She reacted in utter surprise and shock and genuinely", Rittgers said. In the weeks after learning of her pregnancy, Richardson didn't return for an ultrasound, bloodwork, or any other treatment, while also ignoring calls from the doctor and assistants, prosecutors have said. "It can't be both ways". "Come on? Seriously? She was facing life in prison and she's now looking at maybe a six-month sentence maximum".
