Google Earth leads to remains of missing Florida man in lake

Moldt, a 40-year-old mortgage broker, rarely drank, but he had chose to go out that evening in November 1997.

On the night of his disappearance, Mr Moldt left the club at about 23:00 local time (03:00 GMT), a report by the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System said. He didn't appear to be drunk. The 40-year-old Florida man never made it home, and for almost 22 years, his whereabouts remained a mystery.

According to a USA database which profiles unsolved missing people cases, Moldt's auto was visible on a Google Earth satellite photo of the area since 2007.

Deputies quickly verified that there was a heavily-calcified vehicle in the pond, meaning the auto had likely been submerged for a very long time.

Palm Beach County investigators say a Google Earth search helped uncover the body of a man, who went missing in 1997, from a retention pond in Wellington last month.

Sheriff's office spokeswoman Teri Barbera said on Thursday that a previous resident of the Grand Isles neighborhood in Wellington, Florida, was checking the neighborhood on Google Earth when he zoomed into the lake and saw what looked like a auto.

Abraham says he 'always wanted to be like' Chelsea legend Drogba
After the close of the worldwide break, Chelsea will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to face Wolves at Molineux. Abraham now finds himself in the position that Drogba once occupied, the starting striker at Stamford Bridge.

Ms Barbera said it was a neighbour who reported the sunken auto and was not aware of reports that Google Maps had been used. They sent the remains and the vehicle to the Medical Examiner's Office, which was able to make a positive I.D. on Tuesday. The neighbour asked Fay whether he knew about it.

William Earl Moldt left a South Florida nightclub on November 8, 1997.

Fay didn't believe it, the Sun Sentinel reported, but he asked a neighbour who operates a drone to double check. He then called the sheriff's office.

Moldt could have been found 10 years ago.

The subdivision was under construction when Moldt went missing, but the pond was already there. He reportedly did not appear intoxicated and left the club alone in his auto.

Lantana and Wellington are about 32km apart.
