Daniil Medvedev
The win over Schwartzman sent Nadal through to a 33rd Grand Slam semi-final - third most in history behind Roger Federer (45) and Novak Djokovic (36) - as he reached the last four in NY for the eighth time.
Nadal remains on track to win his 19th Grand Slam title this week having fended off Diego Schwartzman to reach the semi-finals.
Nadal eventually defeated the Argentine 20th seed 6-4 7-5 6-2 on the Arthur Ashe Stadium after two hours and 47 minutes to close in on a fourth title at Flushing Meadows.
He received treatment to his left forearm early in the third set but swiftly allayed any injury fears, after a knee injury forced him to retire during last year's semi-final against Juan Martin del Potro.
But his five-set victory over five-time US Open champion Roger Federer in the quarter-finals demonstrated a resurgence in form as the 28-year-old reached his first Grand Slam semi-final since the 2017 Australian Open. Schwartzman had won only two sets in the previous 17 against Nadal. "I have played him eight times, and every important moment he played better than me!"
"He's serving huge, big forehands, moving well, and big confidence because he's having a great year". The Bulgarian, who has slipped down the rankings to 78th from a high of third, arrived in NY having been eliminated in the first round in five of his six previous tournaments but now stands on the brink of his first Grand Slam final.
Medvedev was hindered by a sore left quadriceps muscle in a quarter-final win over three-time Grand Slam victor Stan Wawrinka but has two rest days before facing Dimitrov.
RAFAEL Nadal
The Russian has been busy the past month, winning the Cincinnati title and reaching the finals at Washington and Montreal, where he fell to Nadal in the final.
"I am surprised. That's what I've been working for all my life".
"Hopefully I can show the bright side of myself". I need to go to sleep.
"I don't know how", Schwartzman said, "but this guy is improving every time". I think my success is not only because of the spirit of fight. That's what I've dreamed of.
Also part of Berrettini's team in NY is Giovanni Bartocci - the owner of a trattoria in the East Village where he goes for the pasta dinners that have fuelled his run to the last four. "A lot of good matches, a lot behind him really", Dimitrov said. But I had somebody to lean on, my friends, my family.
"I don't want to make any predictions but that's going to be very, very tough for Rafa and I'm sure he's aware of that".
"Next thing you know, you're nearly end of the year, you have a result like this".
Gut Reactions: Packers beat Bears 10-3
Tight end Jimmy Graham was able to haul in the touchdown off what was kind of an off-balanced, sidearm toss from Rodgers. I don't have a play call for third-and-40. "Now you're just trying to flip the field and do whatever you can".
