North Korea launches two projectiles, hours after nuclear talks offer

Now, it was 17 days ago, in late August, that the North fired two projectiles from what it claimed was a newly developed multiple rocket launcher.

Along Pyongyang's main roads and thoroughfares, however, banners and placards with slogans lambasting the Unite States, commonplace in previous years, are nowhere to be seen, indicating North Korea's willingness to continue talks with the United States. The talks have yet to resume despite repeated US appeals.

This strategy allows the North to ideal its growing short-range arsenal's technology, stealth and maneuverability.

North Korea is under heavy United States and United Nations sanctions over its nuclear programme, and has criticised Washington's position that sanctions against the isolated regime will not be lifted until the country gives up its nuclear weapons.

One expert told NK News that that range "would match with any of the four systems Kim has tested so far in 2019".

In Washington, a senior US government official said it is aware of the latest missile launches and is closely monitoring the situation in cooperation with its allies.

The launches followed repeated short-range missile tests by North Korea since its leader Kim Jong Un agreed in a June 30 meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump to reopen working-level talks stalled since their failed February summit in Hanoi.

U.S. President Donald Trump, pressing his bid for a legacy-defining deal, became the first sitting American leader to step into North Korea. "On the other hand, it may be aimed at improving or perfecting certain technologies before talks begin, for technical reasons".

This is while Pyongyang demanded relief from punishing USA. -led global sanctions.

South Korea's nuclear envoy on Tuesday held phone talks with his US counterpart over the Korean Peninsula's denuclearization, according to South Korean Foreign Ministry.

The maximum flying distance was around 330 kilometers, adding that the US and ROK intelligence authorities would conduct further analysis into the launch.

So what does North Korea want from a resumption of talks with Washington?

First off, security guarantees from the United States, which it accuses of a hostile policy that aims to overthrow its government.

North Korea is willing to go to the negotiation table with the United States again for denuclearization talks in late September, with the condition that Washington's proposals are acceptable, or the North Korea-United States dealings "may come to an end".

"It is clear that both sides can quickly agree to significant actions that will declare to our respective peoples - and to the world - that US-North Korea relations have taken an irreversible turn away from conflict", Biegun said, without giving an idea of what such actions might be.

Trump called North Korea's announcement "interesting".

It's the latest in a series of tests in recent months.

The launches come less than a day after North Korea said it is willing to resume denuclearization talks with the United States later this month.

"North Korea conducting missile tests is sort of the geopolitical equivalent of the boy who cried wolf", Oba said in an email. Both posts have had significant dealings with the North's nuclear weapons program.
