Spanish pop star dies after freak on-stage fireworks accident

The singer and dancer can be seen dropping to the floor after one of the devices explodes extremely close to her.

Joana Sainz, part of a 15-member group called the Super Hollywood Orchestra, was performing at a festival in Las Berlanas, a village 75 miles northwest of Spain's capital, Madrid, reported El Norte de Castilla, a local news outlet.

The shocking accident occurred in front of 1,000 spectators who were watching the performance, and was also captured on camera, with the footage circulating on Twitter after the show.

Officials lowered the curtains, and medical professionals who happened to be in attendance rushed to provide aid, according to local news publication El Norte de Castilla.

Sainz has died in a freak on-stage fireworks accident during at a fiesta in Spain. She was rushed to a local hospital around 2 a.m. and pronounced dead soon after.

There were approximately 1,000 people at the concert who witnessed the tragedy, and authorities said an investigation is ongoing.

The event was attended by about 1000 people, and the Super Hollywood act was one of the last performances of the festival.

They said: 'We want to pay our condolences to the family of Joana, the girl of the super Hollywood group that yesterday passed away, as well as to her group mates.

He added that the accident may have been caused by a "manufacturing defect".

He said the agency had staged the event over "five or six years" with more than 2000 performances and nothing had gone wrong before.

Footage posted to social media purportedly shows the moment the firework exploded, causing Ms Sainz to collapse on the ground.

'The Civil Guard and medics were alerted.
