The gunman was slammed by a police vehicle and spun into a group of cars in the movie theater's parking lot.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott talked about the numerous shootings he has had to deal with since becoming governor in 2015.

"I agree that there are a certain percentage that somehow fear that one day the government is gonna try and takeover the entire country somehow and they're going to need their weapons but that's actually a minority of people out there".

"Anybody who sells more than five firearms in a year is classified that way and has to conduct universal background checks", he said. "Action is needed", he said. Paxton said he would like Congress do the same to try determining "what kind of practices would change this from happening or at least allow us to respond more quickly". The capturing started after state soldiers tried to tug over a automobile Saturday round three:15 p.m. on a Texas interstate for failing to sign a left flip.

Police had said Saturday that five people died and 21 were wounded in the extended shootout on roads between the cities of Midland and Odessa.

The 22 people injured in the incident include three law enforcement officers and a 17-month-old girl.

The bullet fragments also struck the baby in the chest, her mother said, and as a result she "has shrapnel in her right chest, which thank God is superficial". Abbott says the mother texted: "Her mouth is pretty bad, but will heal and can be fixed".

FBI Special Agent Christopher Collins said the gunman was "rambling" but not threatening when he called the tip line.

Little is known about the gunman or his motivations.

"There are no definitive answers as to motive or reasons at this point", Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said. "As a Texan, I'm appalled by your behavior & will do whatever I can to vote you out".

The local police chief reportedly was hesitant to release the gunman's full name because "he doesn't want to give him notoriety, but the name will be made public later". I just wanted to help her and I couldn't. "The hurt you feel is incalculable, but you must hold on to the hope that you must also have", Abbott said. "And we must do it fast". But Abbott didn't define particular law or coverage proposals.

At least five persons were killed and 21 injured in the USA state of Texas as a shooter targeted random people after being pulled over by traffic officials on August 31, police said.

During an interview on NBC News, Castro reiterated a similar position. The measures have been praised by the National Rifle Association. Instead, Trump sought to elevate mental health issues over access to guns.

"We commend the law enforcement in Odessa for their swift and courageous response, but at the president's direction, we deployed the full resources of the federal government, they're on site", he said.

While speaking to reporters Sunday morning President Donald Trump said stronger background checks would not have stopped the mass public attacks our nation has witnessed over the past six or seven years. But we have, sort of, missing areas and areas that don't complete the whole circle.
