Rep. Chris Collins, R-N.Y., on Monday submitted his formal resignation to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi amid reports he will plead guilty to federal insider trading charges Tuesday.

US Republican Chris Collins speaks to reporters as he leaves the courthouse after a pretrial hearing in his insider-trading case, in NY.

"The government has made these modifications in the original indictment in an effort to avoid unnecessary pretrial litigation that could delay the resolution of the matter", Geoffrey S. Berman, the US attorney for the Southern District of NY, wrote in a recent letter to the judge in the case. The superseding indictment narrowed the charges against Collins, dropping some, but not all, of the securities fraud counts. They are also expected to plead guilty in a separate hearing. Collins subsequently had three charges against him dropped in a rewritten indictment.

His son, Cameron Collins, is also on the docket to change his plea Tuesday as well.

A conviction would likely lead to Collins' resignation from Congress.

A spokesman for US Attorney Geoffrey Berman, whose office is prosecuting the case, declined to comment, as did Mauro Wolfe, a lawyer for Zarsky. Barr has not returned WBFO's request for comment. Chris Jacobs and Robert Ortt and attorney Beth Parlato.

"There are candidates who I think will be in before we get off the phone".

"I don't think the citizens should have to wait almost an entire year to have a congressman again", said State Senator Chris Jacobs, who has been campaigning to replace Collins as the Republican candidate for NY27 in the 2020 General Election.

McMurray may not be alone on the Democratic side in an open-seat race. Collins and Republican party insiders robbed his constituents of the representation they need on important issues like the rising cost of healthcare, the opioid epidemic and the fight for good paying jobs. At that time, the congressman said that Trump would "make America great again" - and the "most important thing is jobs".

The Republican congressman narrowly retained his seat in western NY in 2018, beating his Democratic opponent by less than half a percentage point.

"Special election adds a bit of uncertainty but overall the Rs are better off with him gone", wrote Kyle Kondik, managing editor of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics, which operates the Crystal Ball. The governor waited until August 20, 2018 to announce a special election for Slaughter's 25th Congressional District seat, which took place on Election Day 2018.

"It tarnishes our democracy and unfortunately this will get more attention than it deserves".
