Golovkin survives scares to outpoint Derevyanchenko

Former middleweight king "Triple G" aka Gennady Golovkin returns to action this afternoon against Sergiy Derevyanchenko, with fans of "Triple G" expecting another "big drama show" from the Kazakh knockout artist at Madison Square Garden.

With the vacant middleweight title on the line, Derevyanchenko fought a fearless fight landing solid body shots and getting Golovkin in trouble several times.

Judges Frank Lombardi and Eric Marlinski both scored the fight 115-112 and Kevin Morgan had it 114-112 for Golovkin, who dropped Derevyanchenko in the first round but seemed to struggle mightily with Derevyanchenko's relentlessness for much of the fight.

Golovkin was stripped of the IBF title a year ago when he failed to make a mandatory defense against Derevyanchenko, opting instead for a rematch with Alvarez - who handed Golovkin the first defeat of his career.

‘Don’t Tell Anyone’: Putin Jokes About Russia Interfering in 2020 Election
Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that large-scale military operations by the Russian armed forces in Syria are over, and has stressed on the need for a political solution and settlement for the conflict in the country.

As Derevyanchenko took the fight to Golovkin, there were moments that GGG either delivered with enough power punches to take the round or looked every bit of 37-years-old, with "Father Time" breathing down his head and neck.

Derevyanchenko, who falls to 13-2 with 10 KOs, was hoping to score a huge upset and dim the prospects for a third Golovkin-Alvarez bout in 2020.

But Derevyanchenko rallied as the fight stretched into the middle rounds, outboxing and hurting Golovkin for long stretches and banking rounds with angles and activity.

Golovkin started to get back on top after a few troublesome rounds before Derevyanchenko landed a flurry of shots to begin the 10th.
