Len Wiseman Set To Direct Female-Centric ‘John Wick’ Spinoff ‘Ballerina’

John Wick Hex

This marks the second spin-off from the Keanu Reeves-led franchise - the first being the Starz television series The Continental - and it's on the fast track into production as Lionsgate looks to capitalize off of what a hot product John Wick has become. Described at the time as a "female-driven spy thriller", the film was to be written by Shay Hatten, an up-and-coming screenwriter best known for Maximum King, the darkly hilarious script Hatten wrote about the making of Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive (if you can find it, definitely read it).

"Ballerina", a woman-centric John Wick spinoff, is in the works at Lionsgate, with Len Wiseman on board to to develop and direct. This film has been in the works since about 2017 and was quite obviously set up through Anjelica Huston's character in the third movie, whom we see viciously training a troupe of deadly dancers when John Wick goes to visit her. Did you ever have a chance to read Maximum King?

The picture is produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, with Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski also involved in producing roles.

Women-only spacewalk rescheduled after smaller spacesuit arrives
On Oct. 21, NASA astronauts Koch and Jessica Meir will don two medium-sized spacesuits for one of five power-upgrade spacewalks. It is too far for the 58-foot (17-meter) robot arm to reach, forcing astronauts to lug the batteries back and forth themselves.

When the third installment of the John Wick franchise, Parabellum, was released earlier this year, Aussies didn't get the same version as most other countries.

Wiseman is the director of the 2012 "Total Recall" remake and "Live Free or Die Hard" from 2007. He has most recently been engaged in directing series which range from Hawaii 5-0 to Lucifer, Sleepy Hollow, The Gifted and Swamp Thing. Nevertheless, we're quietly confident that Wiseman and Hatten will deliver the goods.
